What is the STILL Method Anxiety Coach Training
The STILL Method Anxiety Coach Training is the flagship programme from The STILL Method.
You learn a full anxiety coaching framework, taught live on Zoom or through a self paced option, with mentoring and a licence to use the tools in your own work. You are not left guessing what to do in a session. You follow a structured set of tools, activities and conversations that have already helped thousands of people.
This is more than a course. It is a complete method you can use with:
Children who feel sick before school, freeze in class or cling at the door
Teenagers who shut down, mask in public and melt down at home
Adults who live in permanent fight, flight or collapse
Professionals, parents and educators across the UK already use STILL to support anxious children and overwhelmed teens. With this training you can become a licensed STILL Method Anxiety Coach and use the method professionally.
Whether you are starting a new career, adding to your existing role, or looking for a way to support your community, this training gives you everything you need to begin.
How the STILL Method works
The STILL Method is a five step anxiety intervention protocol designed to interrupt spirals, regulate emotions and build lasting change, not quick fixes.
The five phases are:
STOP: break the loop of panic or emotional overload
TALK: explore and gently challenge anxious beliefs
IMAGINE: build new possibilities, thoughts and choices
LISTEN: notice what the body is saying and understand regulation
LEARN: move forward with new patterns and practical tools
Whether you are working with children, teens or adults, STILL gives you a way to help people pause, reflect and take control, without shame or pressure.
It is a method, a moment and a movement. This training shows you exactly how to use it.
Who this training is for
You do not need a psychology degree or therapy background.
Most STILL coaches are:
Parents or carers who want to support others as well as their own family
Teaching assistants, SEND and pastoral staff, support workers and key workers
Coaches, counsellors and therapists who want a practical anxiety framework
People who have lived with anxiety and want to turn that insight into work
Career changers who are ready for work that feels more human and values led
What matters is your enthusiasm, reliability and willingness to learn. We provide the framework, tools and support.
We complete safeguarding checks, including criminal record checks and references, before you work with clients using the STILL name.

What you will learn
Module overview
The initial anxiety coach training is split into modules that take you from foundation knowledge to confident delivery.
Module 1: Understanding anxiety clearly
You gain a solid, science informed understanding of anxiety and its impact. You will learn:
How anxiety shows up in children, teens and adults, including school refusal and shutdown
Common anxious behaviours in homes, classrooms and workplaces
Key types of anxiety and how they overlap and feed into one another
How anxiety affects learning, relationships, confidence and identity
By the end of this module you can recognise anxiety more accurately and explain it in language that makes people feel understood, not blamed.
Module 2: Emotional dysregulation, trauma and tools
In this module we look closely at what drives anxious behaviour and dysregulation.
You will:
Explore why some nervous systems stay in survival mode and what helps them settle
Learn how to help children and adults build a personal toolbox of regulation strategies
Look at causes of anxiety, from life events through to chronic stress and unmet needs
Gain confidence with key trauma terminology, including a clear discussion of adverse childhood experiences
You leave with practical tools you can use to help people move from overwhelm toward safety.
Module 3: The STILL Method tools and framework
Here you begin to work with the actual building blocks of the STILL Method programme.
You will:
Learn each of the core tools, activities and metaphors that make up the method
Understand what each tool is for, when to use it and what to avoid
Practise using the tools in a safe training setting
See how the tools fit together across a six session programme
By the end of this module, the method stops being theory. You will be able to reach for the right tool at the right moment.
Module 4 and Module 5: Confident delivery with real clients
These modules focus on putting everything together in real world sessions.
You will:
Plan and deliver practice versions of STILL workshops and 1 to 1 sessions
Learn how to pace sessions safely when people are highly anxious or shut down
Explore how to adapt for different ages, cultures and neurotypes
Build confidence delivering in schools, homes, online and in community settings
Learn around fifty specific tools, strategies and interventions that set you apart as an anxiety coach
You finish this stage with a clear structure you can follow, not a blank page.
Completion module: Building your anxiety coaching practice
The final module focuses on helping you turn the training into ongoing work.
You will:
Learn the basics of setting up and running an anxiety coaching practice
Explore simple ways to find your first clients without feeling like a salesperson
Understand legal, ethical and safeguarding basics for this type of work
Join monthly team meetings and mentoring calls to keep building your skills
Training is not the end. It is the starting point for a longer journey, and we stay in touch.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need previous experience
No. Some of our best coaches joined with no formal background and have gone on to build thriving practices. If you already work in education, health, care or coaching that experience will help, but it is not essential.
Is this therapy
The STILL Method is a structured coaching and education programme, not a replacement for clinical therapy. It is trauma informed and respects people’s limits. Many therapists add STILL to their practice because it gives them a practical framework for working with anxiety.
Can I work with individuals as well as groups
Yes. Around half of our coaches work mainly 1 to 1, and the rest mix individual work with school based or group projects. The training prepares you for both.
How much time do I need to complete the training
For the live route you will need four full training days, plus time for reflection and practice between days. For the self paced route you can spread the modules over several weeks or months around your other commitments.
Is there ongoing support once I finish
Yes. You are not left alone. You can attend monthly mentoring sessions, join our team meetings and access marketing materials and updated tools. You can also ask for advice about tricky cases or project ideas.
Can I train if I live outside the UK
Yes. The training is delivered online and we already have coaches working internationally. Some details, such as safeguarding and education systems, will differ in your country, and we will help you think this through.
How do I know if this is the right course for me
If you are drawn to work around anxiety, want a clear structure rather than loose ideas, and value a human, compassionate approach, this course is likely to fit you well. The best way to find out is to talk.
