Why the World Needs More Corporate STILL Coaches

A manager sits across from someone on her team who has gone quiet over the last few weeks. She can see it. She has no idea what to say. So she asks if everything is alright, accepts "fine" as an answer, and goes back to her inbox. Three months later that person is signed off.

That conversation, or the absence of it, is the work. Not away days. Not a wellbeing app. The gap between a manager noticing something and knowing what to do about it is where corporate wellbeing coaching actually lives, and it is why organisations are buying it.

This guide covers what the role involves, how you qualify in the UK, what it costs to train, and what the work pays.

The short version

  • A corporate wellbeing coach delivers structured anxiety and stress programmes inside organisations, rather than one to one coaching with private clients.
  • There is no legal requirement to hold a specific qualification in the UK, but organisations buy from accredited providers.
  • With The STILL Method you qualify as a STILL Coach first, then add the corporate certification on top. The full route is £1,995.
  • You do not need a coaching or HR background. Around half of our coaches are career changers.
  • A workshop for a mid sized company typically runs £800 to £2,500. Manager training and multi week programmes contract higher.

What does a corporate wellbeing coach actually do?

A corporate wellbeing coach delivers structured mental health and stress programmes to teams and managers inside organisations, working to a contract with the business rather than with individual clients.

That is the honest definition, and it is worth sitting with, because it is different work from private practice in three ways that matter.

You are working with groups, not individuals. You are being paid by someone who is not the person in front of you, which changes the dynamic and the confidentiality picture. And you are being judged on outcomes the business can see, which usually means absence, retention and whether managers behave differently afterwards.

The delivery itself tends to fall into a few shapes. Workshops for teams. Training sessions for managers specifically. Longer programmes that run across several weeks. Sometimes ongoing clinics where employees book in.

Why organisations are buying this now

Poor mental health costs UK employers in the region of £56 billion a year, and mental health accounts for around 12.7% of all sickness absence days. Those numbers are why the budget exists.

But the reason the money is moving towards manager training in particular is more specific. Employees do not interact with HR every day. They do not call the EAP every day. They interact with their line manager every day. Research from King's College London identified the manager relationship as one of the most significant protective factors against work related stress, and evidence from NHS trusts has shown that structured manager training in supportive conversations can cut sickness absence dramatically.

What that means practically: the organisations most ready to buy are not looking for an awareness day. They are looking for someone who can change how their managers behave.

Do you need a qualification to become a corporate wellbeing coach in the UK?

Coaching is not a regulated profession in the UK, so there is no legal requirement to hold a particular qualification before you start.

That is the technical answer. The practical answer is different. Organisations procure from accredited providers because procurement asks them to, and because an HR director signing off a contract needs something to point at. An accredited certification is less about your competence, which the work will demonstrate soon enough, and more about making you a defensible choice for the person hiring you.

On accreditation. The STILL Method is accredited at provider level by ACCPH and IPHM. When you are comparing training providers, check whether accreditation sits with the provider or is claimed course by course, and check which body. It is a common place for training marketing to overreach.

How to qualify: the training route

Corporate is not a standalone course, and there is a good reason for that. You cannot adapt a framework for organisational settings before you know the framework.

1

Qualify as a STILL Coach

You learn the complete anxiety resolution framework: Stop, Talk, Imagine, Listen, Learn. This is the same certification our coaches use in schools, care settings and private practice. Four live days on Zoom or self-paced online.

2

Add the Corporate Certification

You learn to take the framework into organisations, and you are licensed to deliver three ready made programmes. You also get the business side: pricing, contracting, and how to position yourself to CEOs, HR directors and heads of L and D.

If you are already a qualified STILL Coach you go straight to step two. If you hold the Training Pass, both steps are already covered.

What you are licensed to deliver

The distinction between training that gives you knowledge and training that gives you something to sell matters more in corporate than anywhere else, because you are pitching to people who want to see the programme before they buy it.

Trauma informed manager training

Teaches managers to recognise how trauma shows up at work, in performance, communication and behaviour, and to respond without causing further harm. Safe language, psychological safety, and clear boundaries around what a manager handles and what they escalate. It does not turn managers into therapists.

Anxiety informed management training

Gives managers a practical framework for supporting anxious team members day to day. Supportive conversations, adjusting workload and pressure sensibly, and protecting their own capacity. It also covers a newer pressure showing up across UK workplaces: anxiety linked to AI change, from job security fears to the pace of adopting new tools.

STILL Shift

A six week team communication and emotional regulation programme, delivered week by week to a whole team with a separate manager session, and bookended by a wellbeing survey so the client can see what changed. Because it runs across six weeks it shifts how a team actually talks under pressure, rather than giving them a good day and no follow through.

You also receive a full practitioner licence to use the intellectual property, executive pitch decks built for HR presentations, and the marketing framework.

Who this suits

You do not need to be a coach already. Around half of STILL Method coaches are career changers who came from outside coaching and therapy entirely.

  • People in HR, L and D or leadership who want to embed this properly rather than buy it in every year.
  • Therapists, counsellors and wellbeing practitioners who want to move some of their income from individual clients to organisational contracts.
  • Teachers and public sector professionals looking for a route out that uses what they already understand about groups.
  • Existing coaches whose private practice is capped by the hours in a week.

It suits you less well if you want purely one to one work. Corporate is a business to business sale, and the certification covers that side deliberately, because it is the part most coaches have never done before.

What it costs and what it pays

ItemFigure
Full training route (STILL Coach plus Corporate Certification)£1,995
Included in the Training Pass£2,100 for all 15 certifications
Typical workshop for a mid sized company£800 to £2,500

Manager training is usually contracted separately again, and a six week programme like STILL Shift contracts higher still. In practice most coaches cover their training cost within the first one or two engagements.

Klarna is available at checkout if you want to split the cost. If you would rather build up gradually, there is also a pay as you go route: book courses one at a time, and once your cumulative spend reaches £2,100 you are given the full Training Pass with nothing further to pay.

How long it takes to get your first contract

Honestly, longer than private practice. A private client can book you next week. A company has a procurement process, a budget cycle and at least two people who need to agree.

What shortens it is having something specific to sell. "I do workplace wellbeing" is a difficult conversation. "I run a six week programme for teams, and separately a half day for your managers, and here is the pre and post survey data" is a much easier one, because it maps onto a line the organisation already has in its budget.

That is the practical reason the manager training programmes matter. Manager development money is usually easier to access than wellbeing money, and it is spent on people who then affect everyone below them.
